Lubricant from
KRS

Lubricants is the role of wire drawing lubricants in the wire drawing industry, where huge forces act on the material in question and on the drawing die during the cold forming process for producing metal wire. By reducing friction on the die during the drawing process, optimal results and high levels of productivity can be achieved. Whether rough processing or fine processing, for different materials and technology, there is a wide range of products where you can find the right one in KRS.

KRS is recognized for its line of dry lubricants for wire drawing. The highly rated KRS is always looking to improve its lubricants. whether to improve customer productivity or to optimize the sustainability of its products.

What are wire drawing lubricants?

Reduced friction and wear, improved quality and productivity. Wire drawing, as well as for wire rods that require preliminary pretreatment, special drawing lubricants are used in the dry drawing  process.

These lubricants are usually based on sodium soap, calcium soap or a mixture of both, and they provide hydrodynamic lubrication between the drawing dies and the wire. Dry drawing lubricants are supplied in the form of a powder in the powder box. As the wire is drawn, a strongly viscous and formable lubricant layer is created on the die. It reduces the resulting friction and thus also the temperature and the wear during processing.

Why is it so important to choose the right wire drawing lubricant for your wire drawing line?

Wire drawing lubricants have a great impact on the quality of the final product as well as on the stability and productivity of the drawing process. If used properly, they can even compensate for deficiencies in the upstream process stages. Therefore, KRS offers a wide range of lubricants to ensure that the exact lubricant is available for each drawing process. They help prevent wire breakage, even at high processing speeds, and ensure optimal stability of the drawing process. At the same time, KRS wire drawing lubricants have different fat contents and additives to ensure uniformity of the wire surface and consequently improve the quality of the finished wire. Our wire drawing lubricants are formulated for a variety of wire materials to increase die life, drawing speed and improve surface quality. Our products have been proven to prevent excessive die wear and prevent wire breakage.

Due to reduced friction, the dry lubricant reduces die wear and ensures longer running time and service life.

The cost effectiveness of wire production is further improved by the use of accurate drawing lubricants, which reduce consumption per ton of wire, reduce energy consumption and produce less scrap.

These properties of lubricants improve the efficiency and quality of the dry drawing process

Productivity levels in the wire drawing industry depend on the size of the wire being formed on the drawing line. In order to achieve a significant reduction in wire diameter with less reduction and at higher speeds, KRS's wire drawing lubricants offer higher temperature stability while still being able to withstand high pressures without losing their properties. In addition, they have a uniform lubricant particle size, which ensures a smooth process and a uniform flow of lubricant through the die cartridge during the dry drawing process. In this way, KRS's products prevent tunneling effects on the molds. This reduces the need for mold boxes with agitators. Another advantage is the reduction of dust, which is important for compliance with occupational health and safety measures and work safety.

KRS's dry lubricants also have the advantage of a large softening range, allowing high viscosity even at low temperatures. This property also results in less dust in the drawing process. Due to the good cleaning properties, companies in the wire drawing industry benefit from saving and reducing the effort needed to clean the cleaner and remove any residue from the finished product.

Based on extensive tribology performance studies and tests as well as field trials, the chemical properties of KRS dry lubricants are determined and continuously optimized so that the wire lubricant is characterized by low hygroscopicity on the one hand and the absorption of free acids and lime on the other. The result is a long-lasting, uniform lubrication between the die and the wire and an optimal wire surface.
